This group was founded 19 years ago by a few Church members who loved flowers and enjoyed arranging them. We meet on the first
Monday of every month, starting in February. Because our Church premises are very well used, sometimes we work in the sun
lounge, and on other occasions, we go into the Session Room. We have been fortunate over the years in having various members
with specific skills. I remember some excellent "lessons" from Julie Ann, who has won international competitions.
She taught us so many new techniques in the art of Flower Arranging, and gave us an insight into a more modern approach. Each
month a group member demonstrates a particular style. For example, we have had Isobel showing us how to "do" a Hogarth
curve; Ann offered a long table decoration; Jean did a wonderful basket, complete with bow. Marion's long spiky leaves,
were looped round and stapled, with a single line of flowers and were spectacular.
Kate demonstrated a triangle shape atop a tall container, and Mina, our President, ALWAYS seems to produce a new and
interesting concept. The culmination of these meetings is our annual Flower Festival, which is held in the Church on the last
weekend in August. Each year we try to produce a different theme, and every member of the group has a display interpreting
that theme. The Congregational Board kindly help us to sell programmes, and folk come to view the flower-bedecked Church,
before going to the Hall for a cup of tea and some delicious home baking. We, in the Flower Group, are "happy blessed"
to have so many willing helpers to serve teas, wash up, and sell goods from our baking stall and "bric-a-brac" tables.
This year we were delighted to raise £1,825 for our Church funds. It was hectic, but it was fun. So, if you would like
to join us on Monday 5th February 2007, we can assure you of a very warm welcome.
