The Mens Group

About 46 years ago, or thereabouts, a Men’s Group was set up within the Church, for the men of Blackburn, as an interdenominational group. At the time there were around fifty members who met each Friday in the Lindsay Hall and enjoyed a syllabus covering speakers, quizes, visits to industrial venues and other places. Once per month a Games Night was much  enjoyed. We were one of a number of such groups from neighbouring Churches and many happy hours of fellowship were enjoyed at joint nights and in competition at joint Games Nights. Today we are one of only a few groups which still exist and while we are short in numbers there is no reduction in the enthusiasm of our membership. We still have speakers and greatly enjoy many  Games nights. Our normal evening starts with prayer followed by the activity of the evening which might be a speaker or otherwise. The evening is concluded with the usual cup of tea and a blether. We hold an annual praise service which is well attended and we contribute to the life of ou congregation in other ways. We are a welcoming lot who would welcome you and as many new members as wish to come along, in the hope that we will be an asset to the Church. We will continue to operate as a Group for many years to come, with God’s blessing.

The Womens Group

The Women’s Group evolved from the Church of Scotland Women’s Guild. Our purpose is to foster Christian growth in one another and to mutually support and encourage one another in everyday life. We meet on the second Tuesday of every month in the Sun-lounge at 7.30pm. We are the ‘golden girls’ of the Church and our meetings are informal, sharing life, laughter  and friendship. Most of us are committed to our Church and the Women’s Group offers us an opportunity to learn about both Christian and social interests. Each meeting takes the form of opening worship followed by a presentation by an invited speaker with time for questions and discussion and then tea afterwards. A typical syllabus will include, for example, a talk  on missionary work, on the prison service, on travel and perhaps something on jewellery or fashion.  Every December we go out together for a Christmas Dinner and in the spring we go on a bus tour. We have always contributed to the life of our congregation by fund-raising, serving teas, producing home-baking and helping at Church activities such as the Christmas Fayre and the Flower Festival.

We would be delighted to welcome new interest and new members.
